Kristy is Managing Partner of Harneys’ Shanghai office. She has more than 15 years’ experience working on cross-border transactions including general corporate and commercial law matters, the establishment and maintenance of investment funds and the structuring of complex M&A, JV, private equity, mining and capital markets transactions in the Asia-Pacific region. Kristy also has wide-ranging and practical knowledge of offshore structures of value to HNW clients including offshore trusts and in particular BVI Vista trusts.
Prior to joining Harneys, Kristy was Managing Director, China at another leading international offshore law firm. Before that she held senior roles in the Asia Pacific including Legal Director, Rio Tinto – China/Asia and senior private practice lawyer at international law firms Weil, Gotshal & Manges and Sidley Austin. Kristy has also worked as an adviser at the Australian Government Treasury on FTA negotiations with ASEAN countries including China and competition law policies and reforms. In 2008 and 2009, Kristy served on the Board of the Australia China Business Council, Victoria Division.
Kristy is regularly featured and quoted in external publications and was named in the 2011 Asian Legal Business “Hot 100” list of pre-eminent lawyers in Asia and the Asian Legal Business “Hot 40” list of preeminent lawyers in Australia and New Zealand. She was also shortlisted for the inaugural Euro money Legal Media Group Asia Women in Business Law Awards 2011. Kristy co-founded a general counsel association for multi-national companies working in the PRC. In 2012, she also co-founded a senior women’s network, allowing female leaders to interact with each other in a social forum to share ideas and interests. She is a native speaker and writer of English, Mandarin and Shanghainese.
